Vice President & Counsel, Employment.
Location: This is a
hybrid position sitting in our
Jacksonville, FL office. Four days in the office is required. Approximately 10% travel is estimated with this role.
Position Overview: The Vice President & Counsel, Employment provides legal advice as to a broad range of sophisticated employment issues, including recruiting, hiring, employee relations, discipline, terminations, reductions-in-force, leaves of absence, accommodations, wage and hour compliance, immigration, investigations, health/safety (OSHA), employee health/occupational health, mergers & acquisitions and litigation. Specific areas of responsibility include analyzing the impact and application of federal and state laws, including Title VII, ADA, ADEA, PWFA, FCRA, FLSA, FMLA, WARN, USERRA, NLRA, OSHA regulations, and corresponding state laws. The role involves building productive relationships, contributing to the resolution of legal matters, and ensuring compliance with legal regulations.
This position is part of the Employment Law Group reporting to the Senior Vice President & Senior Counsel, Employment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
-Provides a wide range of employment-related legal services and advice to management and Human Resources impacting a nationwide workforce.
-Offers accurate and timely legal advice to management on various topics, including but not limited to, recruitment, discrimination, harassment, wage and hour laws, employee benefits, workers’ compensation, restrictive covenants, immigration and workplace safety.
-Drafts, reviews, and negotiates employment-related agreements (e.g., severance agreements, retention agreements and commission plans).
-Represents the company or manages outside counsel with respect to employment-related litigation and administrative proceedings.
-Develops and implements company policies and procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal employment laws.
-Conducts internal investigations related to employee complaints and workplace incidents.
-Conducts management training relevant to a wide range of workplace issues.
Preferred Experience:
-Mix of both law firm and in-house experience at a public, financial services company preferred.
-Prior management experience of support staff, paralegals or junior attorneys would be a plus.
Minimum Requirements:
-Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
-Active license to practice law in a jurisdiction and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction.
-Requires 5+ years of experience practicing employment law as a licensed attorney, including significant employment-related litigation experience.
-Strong experience with employment law and practices in various jurisdictions across the United States and advising on cross-jurisdictional solutions.
-Prefers 3+ years of experience providing legal advice specific to California employment laws.
-Ability to manage a diverse and complex workload while maintaining priorities and proactively anticipating issues in a fast-paced environment.
-Ability to work primarily in a typical office environment and interact positively with others.
